On the 16th of April 2008 in the Vobro sweet factory in Brodnica, 21 year old Krzysztof Pruszewicz died in a work accident. Despite numerous claimed deviations and obvious violations of labor rights by the employer, the prosecutor didn’t claim that anyone was guilty and chose not to carry out any investigations. The deceased’s family has made a legal complaint about this. On 11 September 2008, the Regional Court in Brodnica considered the complaint.

At yesterday’s event many other local and national media were present. The prosecutor clearly spoke from the point of view of defending the employer. The Court did not take a final decision. The next sitting about the case will occur later in September.

At 12:00 in the main square of Brodnica, about 35 people gathered: the family fo Krzysztof as well as activists from Inicjatywa Pracownica and the freedom movement in Gdańsk, Toruń and Poznań. During the protest and afterwards, 2000 leaflets were distributed, demanding that the circumstances of Pruszewicz’s death are investigated and inviting Brodnica residents to defend their rights as workers. Slogans called out included: “Vobro kills”, “For 1000 złoty, the boss should work”, “Enough exploitation”, “First people and then profit”. IP promises further actions on this issue.
